Mettoy, having 2 different wheel patterns to choose (5 spoke or 5 double spoke) from the early 1970s, would specify a "prefered" wheel type for each model. However, on occasions where stocks of the desired wheel type were not available, production was allowed to substitute different wheels as long as they were the same diameter. This avoided line stoppages while the correct wheels were obtained.
Wheels
types as a rule were never mixed on one
model, the exeception being when the front and the rear wheels were
different diameters.
